Rats are different from mice (different species, not baby rats). While mice are social creatures, rats are more solitary. Prepare food bait with what is normally found in your house. Rats will not normally eat food that are foreign to the environment. Position the bait inside the trap and leave the trap along areas that rats frequent, usually isolated corners in the house.
